PANJIM: Ambelim Sports Club squeezed past Parish Youth Nuvem 4-2 via the tie-breaker to enter the finals of Prime inter-village soccer tournament organized by Prime Sports Club at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim.
Ambelim were the dominant side with their midfielders Maxwin Fernandes and Richard Fernandes creating openings with ease but somehow the goal eluded them. Ambelim almost got the opener but striker Jade Colaco’s header off a fine low cross by Richard Fernandes sailed inches over the crosspiece in the 12th minute.
Nuvem goalkeeper Francisco Fernandes then came to his team’s rescue twice by foiling the attempts off Maxwin Fernandes and Joseph Pinto.
After resumption, Nuvem were an improved side but were unable to rattle the rival defense. Nuvem’s only chance fell to Remy Colaco, who however sent the ball high over the crosspiece.
In the tie-breaker, Ambelim were successful through Maxwin Fernandes, Jade Colaco, Joseph Pinto and Richard Fernandes while Standly Colaco and Ivon Colaco were the scorers for Nuvem.
