VASCO: Backing the decision of Congress workers from Dabolim constituency, Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho stated that he will not support the candidature of Reginaldo Lourenco for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat.
“The Congress dug its own grave during the last assembly election and by deputing John Fernandes as president of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, the Congress has hammered the last nail in the coffin,” he told Herald.
Speaking to Herald, Godinho stated that he had always led the Congress during a crisis and during every election.
“For this good work, the Congress leaders from the State and those representing Goa at the national level always sabotaged my developmental works in Cortalim constituency,” he rued.
When brought to his notice that Lourenco had supported him in regard to the disparaging remark by GPCC President John Fernandes, Godinho replied, “Lourenco is my good friend. But he also failed to support me in my developmental works and on the floor of the house during assembly sessions.”
Coming down heavily on former chief minister Digambar Kamat, Godinho stated that when he was the deputy speaker, Kamat failed to keep up his promises.
While praising Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Godinho said he had raised the issue of legalising illegal houses during the Congress government and the present government has fulfilled his demand.
“The Congress party wants me only during elections
and in crisis situation. While I am working for the betterment of the party, there are other Congress leaders
who are working for the party’s downfall in Goa,” Godinho said .
