PANJIM: Congress party on Monday congratulated the Government of India, Indian Space Research Organisation and the scientific community for the successful launch of Mangalyaan into the Mars orbit.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee meeting held on Monday and chaired by President John Fernandes unanimously congratulated Indian scientists at ISRO for their success on the first attempt itself to place the Mangalyam spacecraft in the Mars orbit.
“India is the proud nation to achieve the distinction of being the first and the only nation of the world to achieve such a grand success on the first attempt itself,” the resolution reads adding then Government (Congress led UPA) which had approved the Mangalyaan programme on August 3, 2012 needed to be congratulated.
“ISRO has launched the Mangalyaan from Sriharikota on November 5, 2013 and it has successfully placed its low cost space craft in orbit of the red planet on September 24, 2014,” Congress said.
In yet another resolution, the Congress has formed Jammu and Kashmir relief fund committee headed by Shambu Bhau Bandekar. The fund generated would be handed over to AICC committee on October 31. Meanwhile, along with Congress MLAs, who have donated their one-month salary to the affected people, party president has also announced to donate his one month pension (he receives as former, Rajya Sabha MP) towards the relief fund.

Goa University lauded Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for launching the successful Mars mission terming it as ‘significant’ for the country. Speaking to Herald on the sidelines of a press briefing on Thursday, Vice Chancellor Dr Satish Shetye said the landmark progress within a given budget was worthy of applause. “It is extremely significant. It has been done on a shoestring budget and then the use of brain capital is applaudable. We also compliment ISRO for its successful implementation,” Shetye, also a scientist, and former director of NIO.
