PANJIM: Congress Party in Goa has said that the right wing organizations such as Sri Ram Sene should be banned across India for its opposition to ‘secular’ culture.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has demanded that Congress government in Karnataka should first put a ban on Sri Ram Sene in the State that had shamelessly attacked girls who were partying in a pub in Mangalore in 2009.
GPCC has also expressed fear that Sri Ram Sene led by Pramod Muthalik will make its entry into Goa soon after the Parliamentary elections as announced by him thereby destroying the nightlife and destroying tourism. The party claimed that BJP’s stand of not allowing Muthalik is merely an eye wash.
“Muthalik, who is currently restrained from entering BJP in Karnataka, will join the party if it wrests power at the Centre. Thereafter he will make his entry into Goa. He has already announced this, by giving an open challenge to the Chief Minister,” GPCC spokesman Durgadas Kamat told media persons on Thursday.
Muthalik, had joined the BJP on Sunday in Hubli, Karnataka. However, after the massive criticism on television channels forced the BJP leadership to oust him within few hours of his entry. BJP’s Manohar Parrikar and Sushma Swaraj too opposed his entry.
Parrikar had then told media persons in Goa that Muthalik’s entry into the party was revoked because of his “anti women and violent activities”, further making it clear that he will not be allowed in Goa to set base.
“Parrikar statement to ban entry of Muthalik is to woo voters in the name of secularism,” the spokesman said.
Kamat said that organizations like Sri Ram Sean, a threat to society should be banned across India. “We demand that Congress government in Karnataka ban Sri Ram Sene,” he said responding to a question.
Kamat said that the threat by Muthalik to close down pubs and night spots in Goa would destroy tourism and that banning the group once and for all would stop it from spreading its tentacles.
Former Congress led Goa government had banned entry of Sri Ram Sene in the state while Parrikar after taking charge had claimed that he would not like such kind of people to start their activities in the state.
