PANJIM: The State Executive committee (SEC) has asked government departments to control expenditure and defer projects which are not time-bound to the next year in wake of the dwindling State coffers.
The SEC, headed by Chief Secretary Parimal Rai, has shared a concern of availability of funds. “There is a need for improving collection efficiency and rationalisation of tariff and tax structures and the departments must avail of the benefits of Central government schemes for the State and all HoDs and secretaries were accordingly directed to work on these issues immediately,” the minutes of the SEC meeting read.

Further, it says, there are many schemes of the government of India that are similar to those launched by the State government. “Departments must take advantage of these schemes and use the State funds to top up these government of India schemes for effective utilisation of the scarce State resources,” it says.
On large projects undertaken in the State, the SEC says departments must also work on expenditure control, and where needed, projects or other expenditures, which can be postponed without adversely affecting the public good, may be deferred to the next year.
