MARGAO: The Colva police on Saturday arrested a man for allegedly raping his 14-year-old niece.
According to the police, both, the accused and the victim along with her parents were staying in a rented room. Both the brothers are working as cooks in a hotel. Currently the victim’s parents had gone to their native place in Karnataka leaving their three children in the room. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused allegedly raped the victim.
The girl who had gone to school complained of pain in the abdomen during class hours and following enquiry, the school authorities immediately informed the police, who also recorded the victim’s statement in the presence of NGO. The victim was also taken for medical examination at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim. The police are waiting for victim’s parents to return from Karnataka. The Colva police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 65 (I) and 76 of BNS, Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act and the under relevant Sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act of 2012. Lady PSI Varshada Naik Dessai is conducting investigations.
