Cops to inspect Sunburn venue today

Even as the Sunburn 2010 organisers claim to have geared up for the three-day event beginning from December 27, Goa Police will launch its inspection on Friday before granting approval.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Mapusa II) P Mapari confirmed that they have received an application of Sunburn organizers seeking permission to hold the event at Candolim beach.
“The Deputy Collector has forwarded the application today (Thursday) evening on basis of which we have asked Calangute police to carry out a thorough survey,” Mapari told Herald.
The team will prepare a report after assessing the security, parking and other arrangements at the festival venue. The report will then be forwarded to the Deputy Collector, which will decide on issuing permission.
Bardez Sub-Divisional Magistrate Dashrat Redkar also confirmed that Sunburn organisers have applied seeking permission to hold the three-day event.
The organisers claimed that everything is in place to hold the mega-event. “We have already applied seeking permission to hold the event. Everything is on schedule,” Chief Executive Officer, Percept Sports and Entertainment Devraj Sanyal said.
They even held a meeting with the Tourism Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar. Sanyal claimed to have obtained all required permissions including permission from the local Panchayat.
An officer said that the festival has to obtain permission from the Home Department which is a mandatory circular issued by the Home Department after the festival hit controversy with the death of Bangalore youth Meha Bahuguna in 2009.
The festival in its fourth year has already marketed its event through cyberspace and is expecting a crowd of around 20,000. Online ticket booking began from November onwards.
