VASCO: Raising serious concerns over the undue delay in the shifting the newly formed Quelossim panchayat to its new premises, the Cortalim panchayat on Saturday demanded the former to immediately move out.
Cortalim panchayat questioned why the Quelossim body is not keen on shifting to the new premises when all demands made by the body has been fulfilled.
Addressing a press conference, Cortalim Sarpanch Senia Pereira said, “First of all I want to make it very clear that due to operations of two panchayats under one roof, works of both the panchayats get hampered. Now to resolve this issue, recently on September 25, a joint meeting of all the stake holders including representatives from both Cortalim and Quelossim, other State government officials was held in presence of MLA Alina Saldanha.”
At that meeting, Ms Pereira said, several points were discussed and it was agreed to by that Quelossim panchayat should immediately shift to its new premises offered by Quelossim Church. “However, it is sad to note that the Quelossim panchayat is going very slow in shifting their office to the new premises,” Pereira said.
Cortalim Deputy Sarpanch Raymond Desa said that it was Quelossim villagers who had asked for bifurcation by force and since the issue was also an election agenda, the last State government fulfilled the demand and accorded separate panchayat status to Quelossim.
