Last week CB had registered a First Information Report under sections 7, 8 and 13 (1) 9d) (II) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988, and section 166 (a) (b) of the Indian Penal Code following the confession statements of five constables during an internal inquiry.
Chodankar, who then headed the anti-burglary squad, is accused of masterminding and executing an extortion plan along with six constables – five of whom now are witnesses in the case. The constables were drawn from three different police stations in north and south Goa for carrying out a raid, which never happened.
As investigation is on, the CB is also looking out for the owner of the ayurvedic treatment centre, from whom Chodankar allegedly accepted the whopping amount after threatening to raid the premises for prostitution. As per the confession statement of one of the witnesses, Chodankar demanded Rs 7 lakh to avoid the raid despite knowing there was no illegal activity going on.
