MAPUSA: The suspicious death of Subhash Rama Naik (61), a resident of Khadpawada-Cunchelim, has now been registered as a murder case after the post-mortem examination report indicated a foul play.
The Mapusa Police have arrested two persons Aaron Fernandes and Ramprasad Guin, both residents of Cunchelim. Naik’s death on Friday was initially recorded as natural and preparations for his last rites had begun. However, his family and locals raised suspicions over the circumstances, prompting police to intervene and send the body for post-mortem examination.
Following the medical report, police registered an offence under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samiti (BNS) and launched an investigation. According to preliminary inquiry, a petty altercation between the deceased and the accused is likely to have escalated into a fatal assault.
The Mapusa Police said the accused allegedly assaulted Naik with slaps, kicks and fist blows resulting in his death.
Police and forensic teams conducted a detailed inspection of the crime scene near on May 3. Officials, including Inspector Navin Dessai, were present as teams examined evidence with the support of a dog squad. The case, initially treated as a natural death, has now taken a serious turn, with further investigation underway.
