MARGAO: Cuncolim Municipal Council has moved the electricity department to disconnect power supply to the structure located in the agricultural field admeasuring 8,825 sq mts acquired by the Cuncolim Municipal Council.
The farmer, Vishnu Desai, who was assured by the government that the civic body would not interfere with his property or the standing crops until further orders, has alleged harassment at the hands of the municipality.
Assistant Engineer Sunil Wadekar has intimated Vishnu that the electricity department will disconnect power supply to the structure in the agricultural land within 15 days following a letter received from the CMC Chief Officer stating that the land in question is now in the possession of the civic body.
Vishnu, however, has protested against the decision to disconnect power supply, saying that the decision would interfere with the standing crops since power disconnection would render the water pump installed in the farm useless. “How can the civic body tell the power department to disconnect power supply when the government had issued clear instructions not to interfere with the standing crops?” Vishnu questioned, adding that the municipality’s decision to deny him electricity to operate the water pump amounts to harassment.
Meanwhile, the issue over the controversial land acquisition will come up before the Cuncolim Municipal Council on Tuesday. The letter written by the Director of Municipal Administration on the government’s decision to drop the administrative complex project on the acquired land and not to interfere with the standing crops is expected to be deliberated at the council meeting.
