CURCHOREM: Over 100 villagers from Paroda on Monday blocked the main Quepem-Margao road at Paroda for nearly two hours in protest against the government’s failure to widen the road at Paroda.
The villagers claimed that they protested and blocked the main road as the government has failed to widen a portion of the road which is very narrow and has become a death trap for road users.
Speaking to Herald, former Avedem sarpanch Alleluia Afonso said the authorities failed to repair and widen the road at a sharp turn near the servicing centre at Paroda.
“It is an accident-prone zone and it becomes very difficult when two vehicles have to pass each other at this place as there is inadequate place,” said Afonso.
0the portion of the road where widening is required is very narrow with the irrigation canal on one side and residential houses on the other side, due to which one has to be extra-cautious while driving or even walking along this stretch.
Quepem Mamlatdar Manoj Khorgaonkar and Margao Joint Mamlatdar John Fernandes rushed to the spot and heard the grievances of the villagers and assured to start the road widening work shortly.
