MARGAO: Taking up cudgels for the agitated truck owners from Cuncolim and Mormugao, Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik on Saturday told the Cuncolim police not to allow transportation of bauxite ore from Naqueir pending an amicable settlement of the transportation dispute.
The Cuncolim MLA has also sought the intervention of the district Collector, South Venancio Furtado to solve the imbroglio and avert a law and order problem.
Rajan along with the truck owners from Cuncolim and Mormugao called on the Cuncolim police and explained how they are being discriminated against by the truck owners from Naqueri in the matter of ore transportation.
After the meeting with PSI Tukaram Chawan, the Cuncolim MLA said that there cannot be an preferential treatment to any local truck owners in the transportation of ore, saying that it will only set a bad precedent. “If this preferential treatment is allowed by the authorities, a day will come when every local truck owner will demand their pound of flesh at the cost of the outside transporters”, he said.
Replying to a question, the MLA said he has requested the Cuncolim police not to allow Bauxite ore transportation pending solution to the problem. “I have requested the authorities to hold a joint meeting of the truck owners and the mine owner on Monday”, he said.
