A letter written by CMC Chief Officer Pandarinath Naik to the Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) clearly indicates that the civic body will not be content with just clearing the trees and vegetation from the acquired land for the NH widening.
In fact, the CMC chief officer has sought approval and consent from the DMA’s office in public interest for the construction of government administrative building complex cum parking space in the acquired land.
He pointed out that the office of the Cuncolim Municipal Council will also be shifted, besides several other government offices to the new administrative building as per the draft plan outlay of the project submitted before the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court of India.
In fact, the chief officer drew attention of the DMA that the member secretary GSUDA had invited Expression of Interest for appointment of project consultant relating to government administrative building cum parking complex, opposite the bus stand.
The project work, however, was withheld due to the direction from the DMA office following representation received from the farmer Vishnu Desai.
The CMC has now asked the DMA to withdraw his letter dated January 3, 2014 in public interest or in the alternative grant approval and consent for executing the public utility project on the acquired land which is in use and physical possession of the civic body.
