Curchorem’s New KTC Bus Stand Stuck in Limbo; Locals Slam Neglect and Illegal Dumping

A series of in complete government pro jects and long-pending pro posals have left Curchorem residents frustrated, with even the long-promised new KTC bus stand show ing no signs of progress. The existing bus stand remains inadequate for the town’s growing needs, while the proposed site for the new facility has turned into a picture of neglect and poor management. Curchorem Cacora Mu nicipal Council Chairperson Prasanna Bhende said that some of the vehicles parked on the site are awaiting scrapping. “We have com pleted all the formalities and sent the required doc uments, but we haven’t yet received the official letter for scrapping. The process will be completed soon,” Bhende stated. However, locals allege that the same area has now turned into an unofficial dumping ground, with un known individuals and mu nicipal council trucks seen dumping concrete and plas tic waste on the proposed KTC bus stand land. Responding to these al legations, Bhende denied the council’s involvement. “Some unknown individu als have been dumping the waste. I have instructed staff to review footage from the nearby food court CCTV cameras and asked the market inspector to check at night to identify those in volved. The police have also been requested to patrol the area regularly, as we have noticed some people sitting inside the scrapped vehicles,” he said. Residents remain dis satisfied with the council’s handling of the situation. “This is not the way to manage a bus stand area. The authorities must take strict action against those responsible,” said local res ident Prashant Desai, who also questioned the delay in removing the scrapped vehicles. “Why are these ve hicles still lying here? And why hasn’t the scrapping process been completed? There is still no sign of the bus stand foundation. We don’t even know when the actual construction will begin,” he added. Locals have urged the municipal council to take immediate and concrete action to stop the illegal dumping, clear the site, and begin long-delayed work on the new KTC bus stand.
