Daily wage workers without wages for two months!

MARGAO: Even as the Margao Municipal Council is making overt and covert attempts to engage Self Help Groups and other agencies in the door-to-door waste collection exercise, daily wage workers engaged by the Civic body to carry out the work have been virtually left high and dry.

These workers, mostly comprising of women, have not been paid their wages for the last two months. While the regular staff and employees have received their salaries and wages, these daily wage workers collecting waste door-to-door are still waiting for the civic body for the payment of their wages.
And, with the civic body moving in the direction of engaging Self Help Groups given the huge financial implications of engaging the additional manpower, these workers are indeed keeping their fingers crossed over their very future.
Monday saw a group of daily wage workers anxiously waiting in the corridors of the civic body, apparently to meet Chief Officer Narayan Sawant, who had proceeded to Panjim for some official work. Though these workers were assured of their wages by Tuesday, they are hoping against hope that the civic body clear their wages at the earliest.
