PONDA: Residents of Ponda and Tiswadi heaved a sigh of relief after the 1000 mm dia damaged pipeline at Ganjem, Usgao Bhandara, supplying raw water to Opa Treatment Plant was repaired and restored.

Supply was disrupted after the pipeline was damaged on Thursday, causing the water level to dip to 2.7 metres, definitely a cause of concern at the onset of summer. The Water Resources Department team immediately took up the repair work and pressed in additional manpower and it was restored Friday morning. Following this, the supply of raw water was also resumed after few hours.
The water level was reduced to 2.7 metres at Opa after raw water supply line from Ganjem Bhandara was damaged.
Fortunately, the burst pipeline had not affected the supply of water to Ponda and Tiswadi as water from the three bhandaras on Opa River from Collem was released to maintain the level of water at the Opa plant for pumping, treatment and supply.
The Opa Water Treatment Plant has 24 bhandaras from Collem to OPA-Khandepar and this is not the first time water supply has been disrupted due to a pipeline burst.
