MARGAO: Taking cognizance of the garbage problems in Rumdamol-Davorlim, the local gram sabha resolved to start door-to-door garbage collection on trial basis from September 1.
At the meeting chaired by Sarpanch Murtusab Kaknur, the panchayat stated that they had engaged the services of garbage-collection contractors and a nominal fee of Rs 2 had been agreed upon. The drive will target only households initially. After considering the feedback and budget to support the program, the panchayat will extend the drive to commercial establishments and fix the final fee.
Another sore issue at the gram sabha was the traffic cell, which incessantly issued challans to vehicles parked in the village. The panchayat also expressed displeasure at the difficulty in retrieving towed vehicles.
The gram sabha called for the relaxation of parking rules in the village given the lack of areas demarcated for parking, and it resolved to write to the RTO about the same
Panchayat secretary Custodia Faria also noted the constitution of village development committees as per the 14th Finance Commission. A 12-member committee was formed out of panch members and eminent locals. The panchayat is hopeful of receiving the funds promised by the Commission after fulfilling the requisite criteria via these committees.
