PANJIM: Days after standing together in the Assembly there are cracks visible in the United Opposition as the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) on Friday criticised the Congress for its stand in Parliament on the Mhadei issue.

Addressing the media, former PWD Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar attacked the Congress saying the party cannot be trusted on the Mhadei issue. “Yesterday in Parliament, Congress MP BK Hariprasad, who was in charge of Goa Congress, asked for immediate Environment Clearance for Mhadei water diversion project,” Dhavalikar said.
He charged that the Congress and BJP are on same page on the Mhadei issue. “People must not trust both these parties. BJP, despite having a government at the Centre, State and in Karnataka is not willing to do anything for Goa and what the Congress MP did was shocking,” Dhavalikar said.
He said the MGP has planned series of protests on Mhadei and people have to join in large numbers to save mother Mhadei. Along with this MGP has also planned a huge agitation at Azad Maidan, Panjim wherein 1,500 people are expected to attend, he said.
Dhavalikar also criticised the law and order situation in the State saying the police are only capable of arresting MLAs at midnight. “What can we say of the incident wherein goons enter a Casino and damaged premises and abuse customers, it looks there is no law and order in the State. Also see the Prakash Naik case, there is no development till now,” he said.
Further, speaking on the economy, Dhavalikar said the government has no money for even day-to-day expenditure. “State economy is in bad shape as only 31 per cent expenditure has been done from the last Budget,” he said and added that PWD was given just Rs 400 cr out of Rs 1800 cr budget provision.”
He also flayed the imposition of Section 144 of CrPC without any specific threat. “Can government tell what will they do when protests are going on, village satraps are on festivals like Shigmo, Carnival, ZP elections all these places there will be people in groups,” he said.
