CALANGUTE: Amid growing demands from the BJP party to hold the ZP polls on party lines, a Chintan Baitak of party legislators in Calangute on Monday felt that the decision to continue an alliance with the MGP in the ensuing ZP polls should be left to the party to decide.
The two-day Chintan Baitak of party legislators, which began on Monday, witnessed the presence of 19 MLAs, besides Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, BJP Deputy Chairman (Planning Commission) Datta Kholkar and BJP General Secretary Satish Dhond. The meeting which started at 5.30 pm ended at 10.30 pm. It will continue Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m.
“It was the general opinion that the Zilla Parishad polls be held on party lines. However, the decision to continue the alliance with the MGP for the ensuing Zilla Parishad polls or not was left the party to decide,” said a legislator, who did not wish to be named.
The meeting of the party deliberated on various issues concerning the state of Goa and strengthening its base.
“However in all likelihood, the alliance with MGP for the Zilla Parishad polls will no longer continue and party will go it alone,” the MLA added.
The meet also discussed the membership drive of the party and discussions were held on modalities regarding the drive, in order to achieve the target of 3.5 lakh.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, who reached the venue at around 7.30 pm, spoke on need to strengthen the BJP in the state with an emphasis on grassroots.
Earlier, interacting with media persons, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza flatly denied that the party had offered him any proposal of a governor as rumoured by party workers and others.
Vishnu Wagh boycotted the meeting.
