DABOLIM: Trawlers owners at Vasco fishing Jetty have claimed that they are facing a tough time as there is tremendous decline in fish catch this fishing season as compared to the last season.
Most of the fishermen were eagerly waiting to get a good catch of solar shrimps, but had to settle for lesser quantity.
Some labourers are yet to arrive and rough weather and strong underwater currents have piled up their misery further as fishermen can’t venture with their fishing vessels in the rough sea.
“We are facing a tough time as we find it difficult to deal with this low catch, as all the labourers returned late and now the quantity of fish catch has declined and the weather is creating problems for us,” said Jose D’Souza, a trawler owner.
Another trawler owner, Rocky Vaz, said it’s too early to comment as the bad weather and underwater currents have halted the fishing business. “It will be right to comment on the decline of fish catch only by September-end as we will know for sure the situation then,” he said.
