MARGAO: The Zilla Panchayat members have been successful in getting works worth more than Rs 20 crores tendered despite the allegedly insufficient powers and funds. Since March 2015, the South Goa body has invited tenders for 682 works worth Rs 20,55,61,251 with the Chairperson Navnath Naik successfully tendering works worth more than rupees one crore for Rivona constituency represented by him. Rubbishing the claims of insufficient funds and powers, Ulhas Tuenkar representing Navelim constituency said that it was propaganda just to discredit the government. “We have received around Rs 1.5 crore as funds giving each ZP member around Rs 8 lakhs and more funds are expected within a month,” he said. Of the projects tendered, 19 were estimated to be costing less than rupees one lakh but above Rs 50,000 and of which four were in Nuvem constituency, three in Benaulim and Cola constituencies, two in Cola and Rivona constituencies and one each in Rivona, Usgao-Ganjem and Xeldem constituencies.
Seven projects estimated to cost less than Rs 50,000 were tendered with four projects for Usgao-Ganjem constituency and one each at Curti, Navelim and Xeldem constituencies. The lowest tendered work was undertaken in Usgao-Ganjem constituency represented by Dnyaneshwar Naik for an estimated cost of Rs 36,987. While the most expensive project undertaken by the South Zilla Panchayat was the construction of drain at Gudi in Paroda village in Guirdolim constituency represented by Minaxi Gaonkar estimated at Rs 12,60,677.
The most amount was spent on Rivona Constituency that is represented by the Chairperson where 30 projects were tendered estimated to cost Rs 1,08,74,180. The highest number of projects were taken up in Curti represented by Mohan Verenkar where 34 projects were tendered for Rs 85,71,197 followed by Raia constituency represented by Fatima Gaonkar where 30 projects estimated at Rs 84,41,391 were tendered.
Sancoale represented by Gilbert Rodrigues had the least projects and amount invested in the constituency as only 11 projects from this area were tendered for an amount totaling Rs 40,58,811. Slightly better was Borim represented Dipak Naik Borkar by where 16 projects estimated to cost Rs 60,67,059 were tendered followed by Dharbandora represented by Govind Gaonkar where 17 projects estimated at Rs 83,37,816 were tendered.
In Queula constituency that is represented by Deputy Chairperson Chitra Phadte, 21 projects estimated at Rs 79,09,083 were tendered.
