PANJIM: The members of the Dhado Khazan Tenants Association and Farmers’ Association of Carambolim have urged Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to intervene and act into the various alleged illegalities committed by the association chairman including misappropriation of fund to the tune of Rs 70.03 lakh.
In a joint press conference addressed on Saturday, the association members have threatened to boycott the election, scheduled on October 12, to appoint the new committee, alleging that the election are hurriedly being held.
A local farmer Sadhu Kolkar said that there are lot of illegalities committed by the present committee, which has affected the smooth functioning and ethical practices in the association.
“There has been misappropriation of fund. Every year the khazan land is auctioned and last time the bid was won at Rs 70.03 lakh. However, the bidder failed to deposit the said amount till date which as per our association rule, had to be deposited within 48 hours. This is a major scam in the association. The association doesn’t have proper accounts and have failed to give details of the books of accounts when asked for,” he charged.
Sadhu further said that the association declined to produce any information under RTI citing COVID-19 pandemic. The members also raised strong objection to the manner in which the election are scheduled on October 12.
