Conceding that the State’s liabilities are going up, Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat said his government would take the necessary steps required to face recession as well as the financial difficulties that would arise due to the implementation of 6th Pay commission.
‘There is also a peak and fall. But we are not complacent’, he said while replying to a short discussion on supplementary demands for grants (second batch).
While the chief minister tried to show that the state is in quite a good position, the Opposition Leader Manohar Parrikar said over the coming months, Goa would be hit by the effects of global meltdown. ‘It is already happening’, Parrikar added.
Even as Parrikar said the revenues have dropped over the last two months, the chief minister expressed confidence that the excise and sales tax revenues would cross the targets fixed in the budget.
Regarding the implementation of 6th Pay commission, he said all states are facing a problem and hence are approaching the Centre for intervention.
Parrikar said the effects of 6th pay commission implementation would be seen severally over the next one or two years.
He said the government has not done enough to salvage the situation. The Appropriation Bill for Rs 536 crore was passed by the House later.
