MARGAO: The Archdiocesan Board of Education (ABE) celebrated the All Goa Catholic Educational Institutions’ Day on Thursday. The Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao, chief guest Prof Varun Sahni, Vice Chancellor Goa University and others were present on the occasion.
Several teachers of the ABE schools were felicitated on the occasion for their dedicated service.
On the occasion, Vice Chancellor Sahni said that the education system can’t be divorced from the duties towards society. “It is our role to transmit these values to the people and students we teach,” Prof Sahni said.
Expressing concerns about the education system, Prof Sahni said, “We are only educating the head. We are educating one side of the head the left side. Logical, verbal, rational side of the brain which is creative vibrant is being ignored.”
He also expressed concern over the education system being built in which knowledge predominates over skills. He also expressed concerns over neglecting value education. Prof Sahni finally urged all the schools to reengage students in the sports and learning and have to make sure that the same is brought in full spirit.
Archbishop Ferrao said, “The Catholic Church can be proud of being a partner of the development of the world through their institutions. All India Catholic education policy says that the education is a transformation process and is a liberation activity. Church carries out education as she loves to transform.”
