VASCO: The residents of Vidyanagar in Zuarinagar, Sancoale have raised serious concerns over movement of heavy vehicle including trailers through the10 metre wide internal road leading to MES College as well as to other residential colonies in Vidyanagar.“We strongly object to the movement of heavy vehicles though our internal road from the four lane highway junction to MES College, Zuarinagar. Earlier, when some mud transportation though same road was taking place we had raised objections and the same was stopped, but now not only heavy vehicles but even huge trailers have begun plying on the 10 metre wide road. All these heavy vehicles have been making regular trips to a construction site of a multi-housing complex which is coming up behind MES College,” said Edward Fernandes, President of Vidyanagar resident’s welfare association.
Fernandes further said, “There are five different residential colonies in Vidyanagar residential area including Bharat Nagar, Park Street, Aman, Sidharth, Mother Theresa colony, Suryanagar and about 1500 people are residing in these colonies. Besides that, there are two educational institutions and a school and the lives of the students as well as residents are at a high risk due to the movement of heavy vehicles. This road is now a death trap for everyone.”
Ismail Gazala, another resident of Vidyanagar said, “We feel that the transporters have been taking our warnings lightly and that is why they have again started using our internal road without any fear. Our road is already congested with an increasing number of houses and apartments in our area and due to plying of such heavy vehicles; the internal road has become further congested. We cannot take the chances of any accidents, and thus, we want them to stop using our road or else they will have to face protests.”
Another local resident demanded that officials of state administration should immediately take steps in providing relief to the residents. “As heavy vehicles have begun using the road, the residents as well as students are at high risk of meeting with an accident,” V Hazare said.
