The agitated residents have lamented that though they had complained to the authorities, the situation has remained unchanged till date.
Women from the locality displayed before the media the muddy water, claiming that it smells of sewage. “Why is the government not providing us clean and potable water? The authorities should do us justice. Many of the residents have taken ill. We suspect water contamination as it smells of sewage”, remarked Priya Borkar.
Sheikh Riyaz said the authorities have turned a blind eye to the water problem despite complaints lodged with the PWD. “We are we not supplied clean water when we pay hefty bills raised by the PWD. We have been demanding supply of clean water, but in vain”, he said.
Replying to a question, Riyaz said that though a PWD engineer had visited the locality, he has only asked the residents to store the water samples for further inquiry. He claimed that as many 12 children from the locality needed medical attention after they complained of diarrhea. “Why has the PWD officials not taken the water samples when we first complained of contamination. This is indeed surprising since work of sample testing lies with the PWD officials”, Riyaz said, while threatening to take out a morcha to the PWD to ensure that the fault is rectified immediately and they are supplied with clean water.
