MAYEM: Deputy Speaker Anant Shet has stated that manmade calamities can well be avoided, while natural calamities can also be tackled wisely, if proper precautions are adopted while planning disaster management activities.
He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating a disaster management workshop, organised by Arishtha Foundation in association with State government authorities at BMC hall Bicholim, recently.
Deputy Collector and chairmen of Bicholim Disaster Management Cell (BDMC) Narayan Gaad, DySP Gajanan Prabhudesai, BMC Chairperson Anisha Vernekar, Foundation member K Verma, ZP members Meghana Yende and Fondu Sawant and Prof Sunita Kadam were present.
Gaad informed that municipalities and panchayats have full right to cut those trees endangering human lives in order to avoid mishaps. He also informed that the BDMC had surveyed Bicholim taluka to work out ways to promote and ensure the safety of residents.
On the occasion, a team led by K Verma and Prof Kadam presented live demonstrations on disaster management.
