PANJIM: The Congress on Saturday demanded that Rs 11 crore compensation sanctioned by the government be disbursed immediately to the flood-affected farmers.
Out of Rs 11 crore, only Rs 94 lakh have been disbursed to the farmers, who have demanded that the Sanjivani Factory be restarted without providing hollow promises. The party suspected the political will of the government over the delay in starting the factory. Addressing media persons, Congress spokesperson Amarnath Panjikar said that the compensation sanctioned by the Goa government for farmers should reach immediately to the flood affected farmers. Partial fund of 94 lakh has been reached to the farmers and the rest of the amount is yet to be disbursed.
He further said that Cooperation Minister Govind Gaude should see that factory should start in the near future but in reality nothing is happening. The factory when it was started in 1973 during then chief minister Bhausaheb Bandodkar’s time gave employment to the local farmers. But now the fate of the factory is in oblivion. The farmers who are cultivating sugarcane, what should they do of the yield if there is no factory to process the sugarcane?
