PORVORIM: The Directorate of Health Services (DHS) is finding it extremely difficult to get good doctors, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, who holds the health portfolio, said.
He said that recently DHS had advertised for 50 posts of doctors and only 15 applications were received, which indicate that Goan doctors are not interested in joining government hospitals.
D’Souza also said that if the situation continues, it will be difficult for the government to open more primary health and sub-health centres and operate the existing ones and that the entire load will have to be shouldered by Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim and District Hospital Mapusa.
D’Souza was speaking after inaugurating Sub-Health Centre at Socorro Panchayat Ghar.
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said there is a need of primary health centre at Porvorim. “The government has already given a green signal for it and land has also been identified. The government should fulfill this need of the residents as early as possible,” he said.
He thanked DHS for opening one more health centre at Socorro.
Earlier, D’Souza unveiled the plaque, Health Officer of Primary Health Centre Aldona Dr Maria Sequeira welcomed the gathering, while Dr Roshan Nazareth proposed the vote of thanks.
