Don’t force us to stop Saligao sewerage trucks: Monserrate

A day after Saligao residents stopped trucks bringing waste from Panjim and Taleigao to the Saligao garbage treatment plant, Panjim MLA Atanasio Monserrate warned them not to force the city to resort to a ‘tit-for-tat’ action.
Speaking to media persons, Monserrate said he would be forced to stop trucks carrying sewerage from Saligao to the sewerage treatment plant at Tonca.
Monserrate said that one truck from Taleigao and two from Panjim carry wet waste for treatment to the Saligao plant, while 90 trucks loaded with sewerage arrive at Tonca from Saligao itself.
“Imagine a situation if we block their trucks. We don’t want to get into a confrontation mode. We don’t want to create a tit-for-tat situation,” he said.
“Let us not reach to such an extent that there is confrontation between us,” he added, indirectly urging Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaoncar to work with him as a colleague in tackling the waste management issue.
