Drishti withdraws writ; lifeguards free to strike work

PANJIM: With the Drishti Lifesaving Services’ plea before the High Court of Bombay at Goa – that sought injunction against the lifeguards from going on strike – dismissed as withdrawn, the latter are now free to boycott work.

The lifeguards, under the banner All India Trade Union Congress, are expected to decide whether to resort to legal action against the government for not honouring its assurance on the fulfillment of demands.
“There is no restriction imposed on the right to strike. We will hold a discussion with the lifeguards to decide whether or not to go on strike,” AITUC Convener Suhas Naik said after the court hearing.
In its submission to Drishti’s plea, the labour union brought to the notice of the court that the government has failed to honour several commitments.
