PANJIM: Following an objection raised by the Goa Liquor Traders Association, the North District Magistrate has restricted the sale of liquor within the jurisdiction of by-poll constituencies only.
“The closure of all the licensed premises for the sale of liquor from 5pm of August 21, 2017 till midnight of August 24, 2017 and throughout day and night on August 28, 2017 (dry day) shall be read as “within the jurisdiction of Panjim and Valpoi Assembly Constituencies,” a corrigendum note issued by District Magistrate Nila Mohanan states.
The association, led by its president Dattaprasad Naik, had met officials at the Chief Electoral Office at Altinho, seeking a clarification on the earlier order by the District Magistrate wherein it indicated that dry day was declared in the entire north district.
Also, bars, hotels and restaurants within 200 meters of polling booth will have to remain closed on the polling day.
