PANJIM: The District Election Officer and District Magistrate of South Goa have issued an order informing people of Section 127A of Representation of People’s Act 1951.
“No person shall print or publish or cause to be printed or published, any election pamphlet which does not bear in its face the names and addresses of the printer and publisher and number of copies printed thereof. Further, no person shall print or cause to be printed any election pamphlet or posters unless a declaration as to the identity of the publisher thereof, signed by him and attested by two persons to whom he is personally known is delivered by him to the printer in duplicate,” the order reads.
The order was issued in view of the election code of conduct coming into force with the dates of elections being announced for March 3.
The printing press have also been asked to send 10 copies of printed material and the declaration obtained from the publisher… within three days of its printing to the Chief Electoral Officer of the State if it is printed in the state capital or to the District Magistrate of the district in which it is printed.
The printer has to also send information regarding the number of copies and the price charged for such printing job.
“Any contravention of this provision is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months or with a fine which may extend to Rs 2,000 or both.
