ECI Issues Showcause Notices to Five Goan Political Parties for Election Inactivity

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued showcause notices to five Registered Unrecognised Political Parties (RUPPs) in Goa for failing to contest any elections since 2019. The parties under scrutiny are Goa Su-Raj Party, Goa Vikas Party, Niz Goenkar Revolution Front, Sattari Yuva Morcha, and United Goans Democratic Party.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Goa has asked these parties to respond by early September. Failure to reply could lead to their delisting from the official register of political parties.

This move forms part of the ECI’s nationwide effort to streamline the electoral system. According to the Commission’s rules, parties that do not contest a single election for six consecutive years, since 2019 in this case are eligible for delisting.
