The arrest of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa co-incharge Deepak Singla by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday has sparked a major political controversy in Goa. Singla was detained after searches were conducted at several locations in Delhi and Goa in connection with an alleged bank fraud-linked money laundering case. Officials from the ED’s Delhi Zonal Office-2 reportedly questioned him for hours before placing him under arrest. Following the development, AAP leaders strongly criticised the action, alleging that central agencies were being used to target opposition parties ahead of elections. The party termed the arrest “political terrorism” and claimed it would not be intimidated. The incident comes months before the Goa Assembly elections, further intensifying the political atmosphere in the state.
