CANACONA: An educational society Thursday came out in support of the IIT project proposed at Loliem-Shelim in Canacona.
Addressing a press conference Thursday at Rajbhag, Nirakar Education Society Chairman Prashant Naik called for a discussion on the positive and negative impacts the IIT would have on Loliem.
Notwithstanding the blind opposition to the IIT project, “let us jointly debate the issue,” he said.
Naik also highlighted the importance of education and the importance of having a prestigious project like IIT in remote areas like Canacona.
The press briefing was also addressed by Loliem Sarpanch Bhushan Phrabhugaonkar, ex-sarpanch Mohandas Lolienkar and Arun Bhat.
“We have always defended environment and individual life; we even opposed destructive projects in the past. But here is a unique project where a village wealth would be developed through educational institute like IIT,” Naik said.
To discuss the IIT issue, a special meeting has been organised at Smt Soiru Angle Higher Secondary School Complex, on July 30. Those invited for the meeting include educationists, social workers, elected representatives and also those who have raised objection to the IIT project.
