PANJIM: Former Chief Minister and Congress Poriem MLA Pratpasingh Rane on Saturday said the government should look for an alternative site for the proposed Indian Institute of technology (IIT) campus, considering the growing opposition to it.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the CLP meeting, Rane questioned as to why government is going against people’s wishes?

“If the people are opposing then the government should decide on some other place. Government should consider an alternative place for the project,” Rane said.
The senior Congress leader maintained that it is unwarranted to impose something against the people’s wishes. “Why to go against the people. After all, this is people’s government,” he said.
Earlier too Rane had expressed his reservation over the proposed project, stating that the government should take into consideration the people’s reasons for opposing the project.
The people of Shel-Melauli have raised strong objections to the proposed setting up of IIT campus in their village.
Speaking on the proposed double-tracking of the South Western Railway (SWR) line, Rane said that for the small State like Goa, the existing two lines – one each of Konkan Railway and SWR is enough to handle the train traffic.
