PANJIM, JUNE 11 The Excise Department which has been under severe attack from the Opposition for not controlling alleged illegal trade of alcohol in the State today conducted inspections at fourteen shops in Panjim, Margao, Mapusa and Pernem to check illegal sale of liquor and seized liquor bottles.

The Excise Department which has been under severe attack from the Opposition for not controlling alleged illegal trade of alcohol in the State today conducted inspections at fourteen shops in Panjim, Margao, Mapusa and Pernem to check illegal sale of liquor and seized liquor bottles.
While the assessment of the liquor seized is yet to be carried out, sources in the department said they have acted on the complaints received in the last few days. The inspection was conducted to check the sale of spurious liquor and evasion of excise duty.
Revival of Mobile Squads: Two mobile squads of the department will get into action from Monday and conduct random inspections in the two districts, our sources said. The mobile squads were inactive for some time now however from the next week they would be put in operation in full swing, informed our sources.
The department suspect liquor is being illegally sent outside the State through Dodamarg, Sanguem, Pollem and Mollem. And to curb illegalities, the department has decided to be vigilant in these areas. The inspection teams would be changed every day and the spot to be visited will be revealed at the last minute, said our sources.
