PANJIM: After the Zilla Panchayat elections, the MGP is toying with the idea of holding municipality elections on party lines in the near future, obviously with an eye on extending its base in the State.
Speaking to media persons, MGP senior leader and PWD Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar said that after the ‘success’ of the ZP elections which are being held on party lines, the government should consider holding municipality elections on party lines by making the necessary amendment to the Municipality Act.
“At present the municipality panels are anyway backed by political parties. There will be more transparency if elections are directly held on party lines,” Dhavalikar said.
The Minister, however, chose to spare Panchayats from party-based elections saying they are a small domain and should be kept out of party politics.
