GUIRIM: A Facebook post by a youth and footballer Shubham Rao Dessai on a road being built through the field at Agniwado, Guirim went viral on Wednesday after several people strongly condemned the act by commenting and sharing the same.
The flying squad on Thursday afternoon visited the site and conducted the panchanama following a complaint in this regard.
However, Deputy Collector Flying squad, Amir Parab informed that he would be able to share the findings of the report on Friday. Shubham informed Herald that he was given to understand that the work was being carried out by the PWD but there was no sign board of the PWD works at the site.
“Four days ago, this work of constructing a road through the field started at Guirim. A portion of this road falls in Survey No 5/38. We do not need this kind of development where they are destroying and filling up our fields. When the Flying Squad visited the site the contractor told them that the work was being carried out by the PWD. Even the tenants of these fields are against this development but scared to raise their voice,” Shubham said.
Ex-sarpanch and present panch of Guirim, Phondu Naik alleged that most works in Guirim are carried out forcefully without taking the people into confidence.
“We were not aware of this road being constructed in the field at Guirim as there was no prior resolution taken at any of our meetings,” said Phondu.
Another panch on condition of anonymity informed that there was no permission taken or legal process followed to carry out the said works.
“Who permits to build a road in the field? Nowadays under the pressure of the local MLA anything and everything is being done in the constituency. This road which is being built leads straight to the house of the Guirim Sarpanch. The work is being done by force and no resolution has been taken by the panchayat,” said the panch.
Local MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar informed that he is not aware of this road being built in the field and claimed that he has not inaugurated this work.
“I will go to the site and check the same tomorrow. If this road is being done by the PWD then it would be undertaken only after the work order is issued and only when I inaugurate it,” said Jayesh.
