PONDA: A father and son duo had a miraculous escape with minor injuries when a huge roadside Gulmohar tree suddenly came crashing down on their car at Dhavlim, here, on Wednesday.
Recently a tree crashed on the moving vehicle causing death of Usgao youth on the spot. Locals rushed for help and both of them who received injuries on head and face are undergoing treatment at Sub District Hospital. The incident took place at 1.30 when Satvirsing (55) and his son Jugraj Sing (18) were proceeding from their Ponda office to their residence at Top Cola, Borim.
Satvirsing when reached near petrol pump at Dhavlim saw a tree falling and tried to slow down but by then his car was under the tree. The “Pagdi” on their heads minimised the injuries. The front seat too was totally pressed under the tree. It took two hours to clear the huge tree. Following the incident, the National Highway was blocked for three hours with most of the heavy vehicles lined in queues. However, the local vehicles found their way through Bethora and Wadi Talavlim roads.
Nichlav Fernandes and other Dhavlim locals said that government should cut this age old trees before commencement of monsoon. Delay from government causes risk to the lives of motorists.
