PANJIM, DEC 6
Goa State Industrial Association (GSIA) today said that few carefully designed SEZs would have fuelled the growth of Medium and Small Scale Micro Entrepreneurs (MSSME) sector in Goa.
“A few good SEZs would have created vast opportunities in the field of industrial development,” Goa State Industries Association (GSIA), President Shekhar Sardessai said.
However, he said haphazard allocation of land to SEZs without creating a well defined policy and strategy has created a monster out of SEZ.
“Government should rapidly repossess this land and divide the land into small and medium plots,” he said adding that learning from what happened with SEZ allotments; government should ensure that there is a well defined objective in rational while reallocating this land.
When asked, Sardessai said government need to think on before taking any step on what they want to see Goa as far as industrial sector is concerned. “We do not need industries which bring in large number of migrants but we need to create employment opportunities to our own youths,” he said.
