Public safety and crowd management will be the top priorities as the South Goa District Administration and police authorities gear up for the high-profile AFC Champions League Two (2.0) match be tween FC Goa and Al-Nassr, to be held on October 22 at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru (PJN) Stadium, Fatorda. With thousands of foot ball fans expected to at tend, an elaborate network of traffic regulations, road closures, and security ar rangements has been put in place to ensure a safe and hassle-free experience at Goa’s premier sports venue. According to an official or der issued by Egna Cleetus, IAS, Collector and District Magistrate of South Goa, the Padre Pedro Ferrao Road stretching from Ambaji Junc tion to Fatorda Junction will be closed for general traffic from 12 noon on match day. Only vehicles bearing VVIP/VIP passes or local resident permits will be allowed access during this period. In addition, both the Fatorda Four Road Junction and KTC–Fatorda Road will remain closed to regular ve hicles, with exclusive access granted to VIP convoys. To prevent congestion and facilitate emergency vehicle movement, parking will be strictly prohibited along all main approach roads to the stadium. The no-parking zone will ex tend from Ambaji Junction to Fatorda Junction. The Collector’s order also mandates that organisers ensure the smooth func tioning of traffic around the venue, with clearly marked diversions and barricades. The permission for these traffic restrictions was granted following a pro posal by Jonathan De Sou za, Chief Operating Officer of Goan Football Club Pvt. Ltd., and subsequent no-ob jection approvals from the Superintendent of Police and the Traffic Department, South Goa. Event organizers have been directed to adhere to a comprehensive list of safety and logistical requirements. These include the deploy ment of 50 traffic marshals, installation of directional signage and barricades, ad equate lighting in parking areas and real-time coordi nation with police units re garding the match schedule. The District Magistrate has made it clear that pub lic safety and minimal in convenience to residents are of utmost importance. Any violation of the condi tions laid down in the order could lead to revocation of permissions and legal ac tion against the organisers. Speaking to reporters, DySP Sidhant Shirodkar said that a massive secu rity deployment has been planned to manage the large turnout. “For tomor row’s football game be tween FC Goa and Al-Nassr, the gates will open at 3:15 p.m. We have deployed 650 police personnel, including teams from the Anti-Terror ism Squad (ATS), PCR vans, and an IRBP platoon. Ticket checking will be handled by the management. Tight se curity arrangements are in place to ensure everything goes smoothly,” he said. Meanwhile, acting SP (South) Harishchandra V Madkaikar held a rehears al and briefing session for police personnel at PJN Sta dium, Fatorda. The session focused on security arrange ments for the AFC match be tween FC Goa and Al-Nassr FC on October 22, 2025. Officers and staff were briefed on their duties and responsibilities, as well as all security aspects to ensure peace during the event. Police sources indi cate a large number of of ficers attended the briefing. Traffic cell officers also confirmed that comprehen sive traffic arrangements are in place for the match. The District Administra tion has assured that emer gency services will remain on standby throughout the event, with coordination between fire, medical, and traffic departments. The road closure and se curity measures will remain in force only on October 22, but officials have appealed to the public to cooperate fully for a safe and enjoya ble football experience.
