FDA recently tested five samples of Maggi Two Minute Noodles from the state at their Bambolim laboratory where initial results tested negative for MSG and the lead content was within permissible limits. Two results are still awaited.
“To counter verify these findings, these samples were also subjected to re-analysis, where the FDA food analyst took these samples to the Goa State Pollution Control Board laboratory and got the analysis performed in his presence for both MSG as well as lead content, by using their sophisticated analytical instruments of atomic aborptio-spectrophotometer (AAS), meant for exclusive metal detection instruments and the results at this analysis also revealed that the lead content was below the permissible limits,” said FDA Director Salim Veljee.
Both, noodles as well as the tastemaker powder sachets, were sent for testing, he said. Following discussions with the FSSAI, FDA Goa has decided to refer the samples for further verification to the Referral Food Laboratory at Mysore, a notified FSSAI lab for Goa.
Clarifying their position on giving the green light to the company, Veljee said the samples being referred to Mysore would help arrive at a concrete conclusion to the product quality. “Therefore, there is no cause or reasons of FDA Goa giving any clean chit to any firm or product for their quality in this regards,” he said
Meanwhile, Nestle India Limited, Goa have been directed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to recall nine variants of their Maggie Instant Noodles and to stop the further production with immediate effect.
Commenting about the Goa scenario, FDA Director Salim Veljee said, “FDA Goa has also in turn directed Nestle India Limited, Goa to take immediate compliance steps on the action as directed by the FSSAI for compliance throughout the country including Goa.”
