MARGAO: The official vehicles of Zilla Panchayat Chairpersons will soon sport red beacons, courtesy Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, even as he promised financial help to the South Goa Zilla Panchayat, besides new office to tide over space problems.
In fact, the Chief Minister urged South Goa Zilla Panchayat Chairperson Nelly Rodrigues to list out four demands in order of priority for consideration by the government. While Parrikar said the government would clear the file for red beacons for the official vehicles of the ZP Chairpersons, he has asked Nelly to suggest the subjects for devolution of funds.
On the question of shifting the ZP office to the Old District Collectorate, Parrikar told the ZP Chairperson to submit the proposal to the Director of Panchayats, saying the ZP, South, had erred in routing the proposal directly to the District Collector, South. “The CM has assured to make available space, whether the old collectorate or a new premises at the earliest. I will move the file to the director of Panchayats immediately”, she added.
The ZP Chairperson told the Chief Minister that the Zilla Panchayats have received nothing from the government during the last eight months, saying that the government neither devolved funds or powers to the district panchayat bodies.
Nelly said she would submit the proposal to the Director of Panchayats immediately and also hold a meeting with the ZP members over the subjects they would prefer for the devolution of funds to the ZP body.
Nelly is expected to have another round of meeting with the Chief Minister on July 8.
