MAYEM: After a gap of over a month the State will finally receive water from the Tillari canal from Saturday, thereby providing much relief to farmers in many parts of North Goa.
It may be recalled that the Tillari canal had breached at Sateli-Maharashtra on February 5, forcing Maharashtra authorities to stop the supply of the Tillari water. Work to repair the damaged portion of the canal was completed within 39 days and authorities released water from the Tillari canal on Friday evening.
“At present, the quantity of water released to Goa is less and it will be increased after making minute observations,” informed the canal executive engineer Dhiraj Sathe.
Farmers from Sal, Kumyamal and surrounding areas have expressed a sigh of relief as they had feared that their plantations would wither away due to scarcity of water.
We are happy that the water will be released to us,” said a farmer, Atmaram Raut from Warchawada-Sal.
Meanwhile, local MLA Naresh Sawal has also expressed satisfaction over the resumption of water supply from the Tillari canal.
He has, however, requested the Maharashtra government to take due care in future to avoid such disruptions at the Tillari canal.
