VASCO: Property worth about Rs 6 lakh was gutted in a fire at a factory at Verna Industrial Estate late Saturday evening. According to Verna fire officer Dilip Bicholkar, they received a call at about 8.30 pm on Saturday stating that fibre optic cable had caught fire at Himachal Futuristic Communication at Verna Industrial Estate. Bicholkar further informed that they rushed to the site and used three fire tenders – one each from Vasco, Verna and Margao to douse the fire. Two earth moving machines were also used to unearth the cables to further douse off the flames. He said they completed the task at about 7.20 am on Sunday under the supervision of assistant division officer Rajendra Haldankar and total estimated loss is about Rs 6 lakh.
