Five held; CM assures action

Anjuna Police on Monday arrested five more persons in connection with the murder of Arun Toraskar from Dando - Siolim.

CALANGUTE: Anjuna Police on Monday arrested five more persons in connection with the murder of Arun Toraskar from Dando – Siolim.

The five accused arrested are Suraj Shripad Shirodker, Sumit Shripad Shirodker, Ratesh Ramu Shirodker, Ashok Ramji Shirodker and Rashid Ramesh Shirodker, all from Dando-Siolim. Anjuna Police are on look out of other accused involved in the case.

Meanwhile, Toraskar’s relatives took custody of the body and performed the final rites, following an assurance from Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who called on the family and aggrieved locals earlier in the day. Parrikar assured that all those involved in the murder of Toraskar would be booked for murder and would be punished accordingly.

Allaying fears of laxity on part of the police, Parrikar informed the locals that he has directed Anjuna Police to brief him on every aspect of the murder case.

The aggrieved locals had blamed police for failing to reach the spot on time to avoid the tragedy.

With the arrests of five more locals, the total arrests in the case have risen to 10 and more arrests are likely.

Meanwhile, the five accused, Ulhas Dabholkar, Ashok Salgaonkar, Subhash Salgaonkar, Nanu Salgaonkar and Shyam Dabholkar were produced before JMFC Mapusa and were remanded to seven days judicial custody. Anjuna Police is investigating the case.
