MARGAO: The flying squad ought to have reached the Nuvem bypass even before the police could reach the spot when the agency was informed of the land filling by the road contractor.
However, as things turned up, the flying squad in-charge Srinivas Naik took a long time to reach the spot. And, he later told the media that the flying squad could not immediately reach the venue for want of the vehicle driver, bringing the flying squad under the scanner of the activists.
When the media questioned Naik about the inordinate delay in reaching the spot, he said his vehicle driver was not around when he received a call to rush to Nuvem. He, however, did not comment when asked whether he would issue any show cause notice on the contractor for filling up the marshy land along the bypass.
